Year 11 Div 1 – Transforming Trig Functions

OK, so here’s the slides from the lesson. I managed to export them to Powerpoint, so I hope that helps. If people want the PDFs instead, they’re here too.

Homework reminder: Ex 24.4, page 108, Questions 7 and 8.

Any help needed, just shout.

  • Mr Riedel

I’m impressed with your Year One class Mr Brewin!

  • Mr Brewin

    I know, they’re super-bright for 5 years old aren’t they!

    Oops… :-)

  • Janet

    I’m six, actually :)

  • abby

    hahahaha

On a level I’m happy that we’re super smart but on the other hand, we aren’t five (or six)…

You know that you said we weren’t going to do anything on tan…? Do we still have to do Question 8?
    :)

  • Mrs Tibble

    Happy birthday Janet :-D

  • nicky

Um sir I’m not entirely sure what to do for question 8? what does 2tan1/2x look like?
And by the way my mum seems to think for some odd reason that something I said on a previous comment was rude or something. so sorry :s

  • Mr Brewin

Sorry Abi – yeah, you might be asked to do tan! And, no, Nicky – I don’t remember you being especially rude. Just your normal self ;-)

    2 tan (1/2 x)

Well… do tan (1/2 x), which will be tan happening half as quick, then double each y value…

You can always get plots from Excel too… It does trig functions.

  • freya

Um it’s AbBY Sir. Twice in one day. tut. tut. tut.

  • nicky

Sorry I know I’m being slow but what do you mean by double each y value? How does one draw that? Where are the intercepts?

  • freya

Personalment im gonna go for excel here… it sounds harddddd

  • nicky

Agh don’t worry now I can’t concentrate at this time of night I feel awful I’ll come and find you tomorrow morning if that’s ok sir

  • abby

That’s really scary freya, i was JUST about to correct him!

But i wasn’t going to point out that it was the second time – thats just mean! He’ll get it one day… ;)

I was hoping you wouldn’t say that…. Ah well, I’ve got prep tomorrow! :)

  • Mrs Tibble

Come on Freya! We did this topic when Mr B was off having a baby. Don’t let me down now!!!

Mind you, I suppose you must have been in Reception then ;-)

  • abby

    AbBY??

Mind you, even Freya can’t get the whole capital letters thing right… :)

  • Grace Mullally

I think that I’ve completed it correctly.. and even if its wrong, my tan graph thing looks so colourful that it makes me happy anyway.
    :)

  • freya

i was EMPHASISING the bit that he did WRONG an the bit that he did right. YES i have an Issue with capital letters but only in history.

arhh i haven’t even done it yet stupid ballet/flexi/ballet/art/dinner.

  • Mrs Tibble

    Have you forgotten clarinet practice?
    The tea lady

  • freya

i actually did do some THANK YOU vair much mrs tibble it wasjust very…. brief one might say… mr sanders is doing some opera this week AND net week so it dosent really matter. n NO ONE can play BYMT peices so tahts all ok too…

  • Natania

um thanks for the new set of notes

can i just say can PEOPLE stop typing their life stories out on here?

    and also BREWIN

i dnt appreciate pens being thrown AT ME! (even if it was a wonky throw)

  • Grace Mullally

Am I being extraordinarily stupid in thinking that Mr Brewin said that he would be posting the slides about the coursework on here?

And also am I the only one who cannot complete the puuzzle!?… I really did try for quite a while!..

  • Jacynth

Don’t worry, Grace, I can’t do it either. I am usless at puzzles. I guess thats why I always do awfully in the maths challenges!

I thought Mr Brewin said that too. Im sure hes just not had the time.
    :D

  • Mr Brewin

Don’t worry girls – I’ve already had two solutions from Year 7s!

And sorry, I will post those slides about the c/w… Not desperate for them now are you? Not really needed til Friday, but can do so if you really want them.

  • Jacynth

Thats fine. Don’t worry about it then. :)

  • Grace Mullally

Well actually.. I was really looking forward to reading these slides!..

( I do joke, although I found last coursework quite enjoyable! – is it true that they’re now deleting maths coursework for future years??)

Same Jacynth!.. I’ve always been terrible at the Maths challenge, and I always get excited when they read out the lists of people who win them, but I know that I wont and never will even get bronze! :(

  • Jacynth

I dont know why but the maths challenge is one of those things i really wish i could do and never can. :(

Don’t you feel so useless when everyones names are read out except for your own?!

Unfortunately I think our chances of even getting bronze have already gone – i don’t think we do the maths challenge in yr11. Or do we…?

  • Mrs Tibble

You do, Jacynth, so this could be your year!

  • freya

oh dear goodness not again. i HATE maths challenges im AWFUL at them. they are just. totally not my sort of maths.

  • Mrs Tibble

What is your sort of maths then Freya?

  • freya

    algebra I CANT SPELL miss
actually there isnt any my sort of maths really. :( i just /like/ algerbra.
