Year 8 division 1

For the girls who were playing netball:

We covered area of a parallelogram and area of a triangle. You will need to copy up the notes you missed.

The questions we looked at were Ex 7B: 1-8 and Ex 7C: 1-8.

We only have 1 maths lesson next week so we had to do this new work today. If you have any problems understanding it, come and see me.

  • Mrs Tibble

Looks like Mr W hasn’t put up any year 8 stuff, Maddy. Did you want to ask a specific question? If not, look at Mr Riedel’s pages – there are hundreds lol!

    Hello,
The Maths exam was o.k. I really didn’t get that question about the triangle in the square and working out the area! LOL! I was such an idiot in my exam I forgot how to DIVIDE FRACTIONS! STUPID STUPID STUPID!!!!! Well, I can’t change it now so I guess I’ll just have to fail! LOL!
How did everybody else find the exam?

i am finding the hw really hard and dont no when i am surpost to change sign
    i really cant do them
    please help!!!!
p.s can the answers be a fraction because some of mine are? :(

  • Aisha

mrs tibble dont worry because i have figured it out in the end!

  • Mrs Tibble

    Well done Aisha! :-)

Frances – can you give me an example of what you mean by the finishing part please.

Maddy – yes, some of the answers are fractions (which is why you can’t solve these by guessing and seeing if it works)
Can you give me an example of where you have got stuck in a question?

    Mrs T

  • *maddy*

i am stuck on number 5
    2(x+5)=6(x+1)

  • Mrs Tibble

Multiply out both brackets first of all.

Then have all the x terms on the right and the numbers on the left.

    Tidy up both sides.

When you have done this you will be able to solve it quite easily.

    Good luck ;-)

  • Fatima

    Hello,
remember the question u gave me after school on friday when Mr Riedel wasn`t there. I cant remember what the question was. It was something to do with reguler polygons. Could u plz remind me?!?!?!?!

    Fatima

  • *maddy*

yer that wat i did but i did the equation busters but i cant get on to simple equations
    maddy

  • Mrs Tibble

Next to simple equations find the line that says unknowns on both sides and click on number 8

  • *maddy*

    ok thank you

  • *maddy*

i have now done all my hw thank you

    me

  • Mrs Tibble

    Thank you, Me!! :-D

  • Vishali

yeh mrs t i don’t get the maths hw

  • Mrs Tibble

It was last Thursday’s homework Vishali. Why has it taken you 4 days to ask about it?

What is it exactly that you don’t “get”?

  • Vishali

the parallel lines and the y intersept

    i have been busy

  • Mrs Tibble

Parallel lines have the same gradient (slope). Which number in the equation tells you the slope?

The y-intercept is where the line crosses the y axis ie the value of y when x=0. Which number in the equation tells you that.

Both of these pieces of information are in your notes and text book.

  • Vishali

    Ok
    thanks

  • Rachel 8GS

Nobody in our class has used this site in ages, so I thought I’d leave a message. Good Luck for the Maths Challenge everyone!

If you’re wondering why I’m on here,… well its this or Latin homework.

Do you see where I’m coming from?!

  • Mrs Tibble

    Hi Rachel,

You wouldn’t be trying to find displacement activities by any chance, would you??

    amo, amas, amat………..

  • Rachel 8GS

I don’t really understand the amo, amas, amat thing?

Oh, right you mean Latin OK! I get it now.

I’m just about to do my maths homework now!
    FUN

    Rachel

  • Mrs Tibble

Don’t drown any loo rolls lol!

  • Rachel 8GS

I didn’t do that! I did it the proper way!
…I wasn’t there at the lesson so I copied Aysha’s!

  • Mrs Tibble

    Didn’t think you did :-)
Still can’t quite believe 5 people did though – and their mothers let them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Rachel 8GS

For question 25, aren’t they the same???
    Please reply!

    I’M STUCK!

  • Mrs Tibble

They can’t be the same – the round one is missing its corners!

  • Mrs Tibble

And question asks you to work out the difference!!!!

  • Rachel 8GS

how do you know the volume of the corners to take away? I’m so confuddled!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

can you give me a hint please…

  • Mrs Tibble

How do you work out the volume of a cylinder?

Clue: we did it in class today!

  • Rachel 8GS

i think i’ve got it. is it that the cylinder you have to do pie radius squared and the rectanglular bin you just do 38 cm x 240 mm x 240mm?

    PLease tell me thats right!

  • Mrs Tibble

Almost. Don’t work in mixed units. Change the mm into cm.

V for cylinder is pi r-squared x height

    V for cuboid is l x w x h

Answers in cm cubed, and for next question 1000 cm cubed = 1 litre

  • Rachel 8GS

For the homework from Tuesday again, would it be the 25 litres pack?

I think thats right. Also how do you get a picture next to your name?

    Rachel

  • Mrs Tibble

You can’t get a picture through our blog. You have to have your own wordpress account, then it appears automatically – which is why Mr Brewin is a muppet!!!!

For the bags, choose the next size up from your volume answer.

  • Rachel 8GS

thanks mrs t! u were really good in disney concert, don’t worry i didn’t mark down any negative points about you! lol! you were better than some to say the least!

    thanks again rachel

  • Mrs Tibble

    Thank you Rachel :-D

That makes me feel so much better!

  • Rachel 8GS

thats ok. (a smiley face is meant to go here but i’ve forgotten how to write it)

now you can sleep with a smile on your face!

  • Mrs Tibble

    A colon, then a dash – then either a bracket or a D
