I am afraid that the link to the notes does not seem to work, well not on my computer. I will try to do the hw with out them but if not i will send an email.

  • Mr Brewin

It’s a PDF. Right click and hit ‘Save Target As’ then open it with Adobe Acrobat Reader or something like that… OK?

  • Aalia

i do not know how to do this.
    im totally confused with 15-18 and 20 – 23
i dont know how to draw the line because its always wrong when i do!

  • Lol Aalia – how do you know it’s wrong??!

The number on its own (ie not in front of the x) tells you where the line crosses the y axis, so find that point first.

Then find the gradient number – it’s the one in front of the x. Note whether it’s a + or – number as well.

From your starting point on the y axis, go 1 across (to the right) then up (for+) or down (for -) the number of squares that the gradient number is.
eg for Q10 start at 5 on the y axis, then go across 1 up 2 across 1 up 2 across 1 up 2. Those points give you your line.

Hope that helps!! Have fun. :-)

    Mr Brewin,

I’m really sorry i didn’t hand my maths book in but i didn’t understand the homework at all. It was so confusing… as i didn’t do it i didn’t think there would be much point handing it in. But i had another go tonight and i still don’t understand it so can we go over it in class tomorrow…
    :)

  • Mr Brewin

“As i didn’t do it i didn’t think there would be much point handing it in.

Is the wrong answer Pia. Far better to hand it in with a note having tried it, rather than have nothing from you.

    We’ll sort it out tomorrow…

  • Nina,
There is absolutely no need to shout! If you give a page or exercise number it might help us to help you.

  • Nina

    Oh
    Page 424 in 8A book
    Question 27 and 28
I dont understand what i have to do
    Thanks,

  • Hi Nina,

Use the table to find the distance between the 2 places. You need to find one name on the left and the other name on the slope and then look at the number where they meet.
For example, the distance between Manchester and Cardiff is 277 km.

Then, use the times in the question to work out how long the journey took. Keep this time in hours – don’t mix the units.

    Then do
    avg speed = distance/time.

    Thanks
I now cant do the sums as i cant keep loosing track of kilometres and minutes and hours!
It is so confusing as nothing fits in equally!
    Nina

  • Write everything down and stop trying to do it in your head!!
    eg Q25
Distance from London to Manchester = 310km (from the table)
Time for journey = 6 hours since you leave at 10.25 and arrive at 16.25
    Therefore average speed = 310/6 = 51.7km/hr (to 1dp)

  • Nina

    I’ve been sooooo stupid!
I subrtacted the times asif they were numbers in the 1000′s – i will start the homework all over again! :(
    - that was a complete waste of time!

  • Nina

What do i divide 120 by in number 27?
    1.5 or 90
    Getting there…
    Nina

  • Hi Nina,
With this type of question your units must all match up with each other. Therefore if you want your answer in km/hr your distance has to be in km and your time in hours. So for Q27 you need to use 1.5 hours as your time. If you use 90 min you will get km/min which isn’t very useful!
It wasn’t wasted time – you’ve learnt a lot from it and you won’t make that mistake again. Well done :-)
