Thanks.
I have thought of something for the coursework but I don’t know whether it would be feasible. I was thinking I could compare reaction times to (you know that kind of optical illusion test where the word is red, but it’s written in yellow for example) that colour test against ages…then I would be comparing 3 qualitative types of data (and i think you said something about comparing three types of data would have a better chance of getting a high grade.) But I was thinking perhaps I could do a random selection of years 2,4,6,8,10 and 12, so that there are reasonable and consistant age groups rather than adults…
What do you think? I know that was very long winded!
Rachel
Hi Rachel,
Err not sure why you think it’s 3 types of data.
You are suggesting reaction time with age. How do you plan on measuring reaction time?
JT
OK Rachel – the question you need to ask is what your hypothesis would be for this. Do people who are colourblind have worse reaction times? If so, what’s your rationale behind that hypothesis? Perhaps instead you could think about a speed memory test, and compare that with reaction times. Like showing a very quick slideshow of numbers / objects / words and see how many people can remember?
Not 3 types of data JT – she means 3-way comparison!
OK! So, for example, I could have a hypothesis like…”Younger children have slower brain functions, i.e. reaction times and memory, than teenagers”. That kind of thing? So I could present a slideshow (having the time of the change of slide the same speed, like 5 seconds or something, and then have the ruler test (or something similar) and then make a graph and see if there is any correlation. And yes, I meant what Mr Brewin said…whoops!
I like this idea, but then I don’t know what kind of things I would write in a questionnaire, because to me a questionnaire doesn’t seem appropriate…??
Thanks
Rachel
Sounds like a good project – we can tweak it in Sept.
And no, you won’t be doing a questionnaire for that… It’ll be data collection via experiment.
Thank you Mr Brewin.
Also my mum bought me the revision guide for stats, so since I am doing nothing this holiday I thought i’d start reading and making a few notes!
Rachel
hello i was wondering is there any power points about questionair for exercise 1c!
thank you!
No, don’t think there is if you’ve already looked at the ones I’ve posted here Maddy. Don’t worry if you get stuck on a few questions – plenty of time to cover it when we get back in a couple of weeks. Or shout here if you want to know now… You’ll need to give the Question in full though as don’t have the text book here!
hi Mr Bewin,
i was just wondering for q7e in ex 2A (our hwk) what it meant by the limitations of the other tables?????
does this mean the problems the other tables have or what they can not show that the one chosen can…???
thanks!!!!
I’m really sorry Frances – I stupidly haven’t got a copy of the textbook / photocopy at home yet, and not in tomorrow, so can’t help you there! Ask someone in school tomorrow, or leave it til Monday. Sorry!
okies….i think i worked it out anyway….
thankx
Was that question 3 because I didn’t get that either…:s Well we have stats tomorrow so can we just ask you there?
Where do I find the powerpoints from our lessons? :s
Up now Rachel – have a look on the front page!
Mr Brewin, can you email me the password for the past paper so I can do it this weekend?
Thanks
The paper is there now Rachel; for some reason Mr B’s message telling you hasn’t shown on the home page.
