How do i do the question on page 5 question 4?
it doesn’t give you the term to term rule :/

  • Mrs Tibble

    Hi Megan,
You don’t need the term-to-term rule because the instructions in the box tell you how to work out the term from its position in the list (the term number)

    x:9=3:5
How do I find out what x is????

  • Mrs Tibble

    Hi Kasia,

    x:9 = 5x:45 (multiplying both by 5)

    3:5 = 27:45 (multiplying both by 9)

    therefore 5x:45 = 27:45
Right hand sides match so lefts must too,
    so 5x must equal 27
    so x = 27/5 which is 5.4

Hey when doing the circles area and circumference do you have to term all units like mm and km into cm or can you leave it how it is???

  • Mrs Tibble

    Hi Katie,

Use the units of the question.
eg if the radius of a circle is 5 metres, then the circumference is 2 x pi x 5 metres.
Your answer will be in whatever units your radius is in.
The only place you have to be careful is if you are doing volume and the lengths are given to you in different units.
    Hope that helps.

would it be just 2 x pie x 5 then???

  • Katie M

i mean like if it was 20mm would i do 2 x pie x 20? and what that equals is my answer?

  • Mrs Tibble

    Hi Katie,
If 20mm is the radius, then yes that’s right, and whatever answer you get, that’s the circumference in mm.

    PS it’s ‘pi’

    Hi Mr A. Merry Christmas

  • Poppy Langridge

    What is a index law??

  • Poppy Langridge

I’m doing Prime Factor decomposition and the question says:
Use an index law to simplify….
I don’t know what a index law is.

  • Mrs Tibble

    Hi Poppy,

Index is another word for power so it will be something to do with simplifying multiplying or multiplying numbers with powers together.

As I don’t know what question you are doing, I’ll give you a few examples.

    It could be writing 5 x 5 x 5 as 5-cubed

    or 3 x 3 x 7 x 7 x 7 as 3-squared x 7-cubed (use powers where I have used words)

The law that you are using here is that when you multiply, you ADD the powers.

    Hope that helps!

Thank you! I understand it now.
