Past Papers

Here are past papers to help in your revision.

There are 4 papers here from the old three tier system. The intermediate papers will be useful for revision up to grade B work. The old higher papers go up to A* work.

The mark schemes will be added after Christmas.

I’m really nervous, I’m getting very confused about maths…

  • Mr Brewin

Don’t worry Grace – it’s not an important exam. Just do what you can. You know half the paper is C grade or below…

  • Grace Mullally

Its that stuff that I’m worried about.. the topics that everyone finds easy are the ones that I find the hardest…

But, I guess thats what revision is for!
    yay… :|

  • Mrs Tibble

Start the paper at the hard end then lol!!

  • Jena Kitley

Hiya Mr Brewin! Happy new year! :) … Right maths! So glad that we have a lesson tomorrow! Ahhh, can you please possibly help me with some of the things, tomorrow, that I can’t quite get my head around?

    Thanks,
    :)

    where are the mark schemes?!?!?
    Confused.

  • Mrs Tibble

Only for the A level papers Freya.

  • Mr Brewin

Yeah will do J. Happy New Year to you too! Sorry Freya – will get mark schemes for papers sorted for the run up to the real exam.

On the calculator paper, there’s a question I’ve answered, but am not sure that it’s correct… could someone please aid me in my quest for a good mark?

Its Qu 13 “Prove Algebraically that the sum of the squares of any two consecutive integers is an odd number”

I said that (where x is an integer)..
    x² + (x+1)² = an odd number
    so..
    x² + (x+1)² = x² + x² + 1 = x^4 +1
and because anything to the power of 4 is an even number (because anything multiplied by an even number becomes even itself??) anything ^4 + 1 must be odd (as it’s the numer after an even number?)

    Does that make sense??
    Thank youu..
    Grace :P

  • Mrs Tibble

AAAAAGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! is the answer to your last question ;-)

  • Mrs Tibble

    (x+1)^2 IS NOT x^2 + 1

    and

    x^2 PLUS x^2 makes 2 x^2!!!
Powers only change when you multiply or divide.

The basic approach of how to tackle the question was sound however lol!

Good luck tomorrow. I suggest you practise multiplying 2 brackets together!

  • Grace M

that was multiplying.. no. it was addition.
    now I see..

:\ put me in a primary school class and I will be bottom :\

    why isn’t (x+1)² = x² + 1² = x² + 1??..
    I’m confused…
OHHH!! becasue its actually (x+1)(x+1) !!!
    I SEE!

sorry sorry sorry… how very foolish!!

    Brr….
    I hope I’ll be okay tomorrow …

    Thanks Mrs Tibble! :D

  • Mrs Tibble

You’re welcome!! And you’ll be fine, I’m sure.

Now go to bed, you naughty girl! This is too late to be working!!

  • freya

    I note, still no answers…

  • freya

i know mrs tibble has said how to do this but i can’t remeber where i asked… so yeah, how do you get past papesr with just the centre number? also what is our course thingey called?

  • Mr Williams

freya – try the link on the post for year 13. There are GCSE papers there as well but they are set out in a rather confusing way. Give it a try away.

  • Mr Brewin

Well Freya, if you read it carefully rather than galivanting around Dulwich Park!

Yes, I did see you. Yes, you did totally ignore me. LOL :-D

    Hope it goes well tomorrow.
